Rating: Teen and Up
Warnings: No AO3 warnings apply. Minor character death, mentioned.
Notes: OnceFutureEmrys, once I received my remix assignment, I was spoiled for choice- so many amazing works to remix! But "I’ll Hold You Close [And Never Let You Go]" drew me right in. There was angst, in spades, which I loved, but Merlin also got to tell Hunith about Balinor, break down in front of his mother, and finally get that hug he really deserved, all of which hit tons of buttons for me. And all those subtle details spread out through the story-all of Hunith's subtle emotions, and the nods towards things that happened as Merlin was growing up-had me itching to imagine a back-story to it all.
It's my first time participating in a remix fest of any sort, and I truly hope that I haven't taken too many liberties with the original! Here's to the hope that I've managed to do OnceFutureEmrys' wonderful work justice, in the end. :)
Summary: It is not the first time Hunith has had to send a loved one away. Death, choice, banishment; parent, husband, son. She has seen it all, tasted all the bitterness life had to offer. Or so she thought.
It is never easy, coming to terms with death. But, for Merlin, there is nothing she would not do.

Or: that fic where Merlin finally tells his mother about Balinor.
