Welcome to Camelot Remix 2022!

This is the official sign-up post for the 2022 [personal profile] camelotremix!

Important Dates
Sign-ups start today and run through to the end of Saturday 26 February (in your timezone). Assignments will go out on or before 4 March.

Remixes are due Wednesday 1 June.

Requirements:
- Fics must be at least 500 words long.
- No minimum word count for art or podfic.
- Work must be posted to Camelot Remix collection at the AO3 or, in the event a participant would prefer the mods to post to LJ/DW and not post to AO3, sent to camelotremix@gmail.com by the due date, and the mods will make works public as their posting date arises (remember, the good thing about posting to the collection on AO3 is that you can edit your work up until the posting date without anyone seeing any typos first).

Eligibility
To sign up as a regular participant you must have created at least five remixable works.

- Writers need to have written at least five stories of at least 500 words of a Merlin FPW (fictional person work) and/or Merlin RPW (real person work).
- Artists need to have created five FPWs or RPWs that your remixer can choose from.
- Podficcers must have at least five podfics based on their own original works, as collaborations are not eligible for remixing

You can use a combination of these kinds of fanworks towards your five remixable works.

If you have many works that are not eligible, consider tagging the ones that are eligible with “remix eligible” (or something similar) and linking to that particular tag in your sign up.

You can specify one work as a "safe work" that you don't want to have remixed, but this will not count towards your five qualifying stories.

We are also asking you to note your “starred work” which is the work you’d most like to see remixed. Keep in mind that your remixee is not obligated to remix this work.

If you choose to create podfic for this fest, eligibility rules for writers/artists apply.

Pinch hitting
If you don't have the qualifying works you can still sign up as a pinch hitter. If you want to do this, either; reply to this post with "Pinch hitter" in the title of your comment, send us an email at camelotremix@gmail.com, using the title "pinch hitter" in the subject line of your email, or fill out the Google form.

Please ensure that you give us:
- your username
- email address
- preference for RPF or FPF
- what kind of fanwork you will create (art, fic, podfic, etc)

Offering to pinch-hit does not obligate you to create extra works, it just puts you on our list of people to ask if someone drops out. Of course, if you want to sign up to create AND pinch hit (you can indicate that in the form below), we certainly won’t turn you down.

Other stuff
The full rules and more information about remixing can be found at the FAQ and What's a remix? posts. If you have any questions please comment or email the mods at camelotremix@gmail.com.

How do I sign up?
Either:
- copy and paste the following form and then leave a comment on this post with it. When you link to your fic, please use a plain url (example: http://archiveofourown.org/users/winterstorrm/works) rather than a formatted link (bad example: "winterstorrm's fic"); this will make it easier for us to copy and paste the links into the assignment e-mails,

or

- fill out the Google Form HERE

Posting Information

If you are posting your Remix to the Archive of Our Own:

1. Go to the Camelot Remix 2021 collection and click on the Post to Collection button.

2. Fill out all the relevant fields on the form, including checking the remix box, and filling in your remixee’s name as a recipient. Copy and paste the text of your work into the Work Text box.

3. Click on Preview (bottom right, below the text box for the story) and make sure everything displays the way you want it. If you need to change something, click on Edit. Edit, Preview, and repeat.

4. Click on Post (bottom right) when you’re ready to post!

You’ll be able to see your own story and you can make changes any time, but the stories won’t go public until the mods flip the switch. (When we have a remix for everybody.)

It is important to note that you need to fill out the following information:

Work Title: We strongly encourage funky remix subtitles! (Though please note that they are not required).

Traditionally remix titles tend to go like this: “Title (The Funky Subtitle Remix)”. You can use the original story’s title for your main title or the funky remix subtitle, or use two new titles.

Besides being fun (and we say this as people who usually hate coming up with fic titles), funky remix titles are useful in that they make it obvious to anyone glancing at a list of your fics that this one is a remix.

Here’s a link to a meta post and discussion about funky remix subtitles, in case this paragraph wasn’t enough for you.

Add co-authors?: Don’t check this. There’s a specific space for the remixee’s name later.

Summary: Summaries are really helpful for readers!

Add notes: Author’s notes are optional. Check one of the boxes and a text box will show up. Best to leave out beta thanks and other notes that might give away who you are. Remember, these fics will be anonymous at first, but you can go back and edit any of this later after the reveals.

Challenge-specific parts you need to fill out on your AO3 entry

Fulfill an Assignment/Is this to fulfill a challenge assignment? Skip this part. Since we did signups here on LJ/DW or via Google Forms, your assignment isn’t in the system.

Post to Collections/Challenges: This field should say CamelotRemix2022. If it doesn’t, type it in. This is very important!

Recipient(s): (if this work is a gift) Although a remix isn’t technically a gift, you should fill in your recipient’s name here so that they’ll get a notification when the fic becomes public. We will post the list of AO3 usernames of remix participants after assignments go out.

This work is a remix, a translation, or was inspired by another work: Check this box! Other boxes will open up for you to paste in the URL of the story you’re remixing. If you link to a story already on AO3, the system will automatically show the author name and title, and readers can get to it in one click. If you link to a story on LJ or another site, you need to fill in the author’s name and title, and readers will get to it in two clicks.

Once your work is posted to AO3, please make sure to send us our header (see details below)

Not posting to AO3?

If you do not have an AO3 account and/or have asked that the mods post to the community on your behalf, please email your submission to camelotremix@gmail.com as an attachment to the email in either doc, docx, txt, rtf format, or link to the work on Google Drive. Please include the header mentioned below with your email.

ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST SUBMIT A HEADER.

ALL PARTICIPANTS must email camelotremix@gmail.com with the following header once the work is posted to AO3 or emailed: Please note that under “Work URL” we ONLY want the URL, not a link! If a mod is posting to the community on your behalf, no URL is needed.

camelotremix: Arthur (Default)
(Arthur/Merlin/Percival – Teen and Up – 1.1k)
Summary: After his disappointing third place in Monaco, Arthur is set to get his first Formula One win... And with the support of his boyfriends, he might be.

Fic: Lighter Together (the Let Your Heart Be Light remix) for [livejournal.com profile] fervidasaflame
(Merlin/Arthur – Teen and Up – 9.6k)
Summary: Merlin and Arthur have come to the cottage where they got together years ago for a short holiday away together. Arthur isn't there when Merlin arrives, but the running game of Minecraft left for him promises to keep him busy until he returns.

Fic: The Past is Prologue (The Boy Who Waited Remix) for [livejournal.com profile] tari_sue
(Merlin/Arthur – Teen and Up – 9.2k)
Summary: They say there is a boy who waited more than a thousand years...
(Percival/Gwaine – Teen and Up – 535w)
Summary: He loves to watch him. He loves to be loved.

Fic: Putting the Pieces Together (The Hangover Remix) for [livejournal.com profile] ext_4137531
(Merlin/Arthur – Explicit – 3.3k)
Summary: Arthur and Merlin find themselves trapped in another town and have to find some way to pass the time. Some hard cider leads to some hard truths revealed...and more than a little fun.

Fic: World’s Worst Savior (the Lying To Myself Remix) for wvyern
(Merlin/Arthur – Explicit – 1.5k)
Summary: “Honestly I don’t know why you haven’t told her yet”, Merlin sighed. “I understand being afraid to tell Uther, but you and Morgana share everything and I know she would support you no matter what.”
Arthur needs to just come out with the truth. He also needs to tone down the jealousy. ...Maybe.

Fic: Christmas Is For Love (The Great Christmas Tree Hunt 2017 Remix) for eachpeachpearplum
(Merlin/Gwaine – Teen and Up – 1.3k)
Summary: “It’s nothing, right? I’m just being my usual worried self?” Merlin asked with just a bit of apprehension.
“Trust me, Merlin, you have nothing to worry about. It’ll be fantastic.” Gwaine said as he handed Merlin a bottle of pinot.
camelotremix: Arthur (Default)
(Balinor/Hunith – Teen and Up – 2.4k)
Summary: It is not the first time Hunith has had to send a loved one away. Death, choice, banishment; parent, husband, son. She has seen it all, tasted all the bitterness life had to offer. Or so she thought.
It is never easy, coming to terms with death. But, for Merlin, there is nothing she would not do.
*
Or: that fic where Merlin finally tells his mother about Balinor.

Fic: Code Béchamel (The Pesky Little Brother Remix) for [livejournal.com profile] xfortytwo / ingberry
(Merlin/Arthur – Teen and Up – 9.6k)
Summary: It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a pesky little brother in possession of a mobile phone, must be in want of a smack in the face.

Fic: How my heart is singing - I see Rio de Janeiro (This Is Not What I Came For (It's Better) Remix) for [livejournal.com profile] geekslave
(Merlin/Arthur – Gen – 2.3k)
Summary: Arthur thought it was all settled with his grand gesture in proposing to Merlin in the end of their run at 2016's Olympic Games. Merlin has other ideas.

Fic: A Love So Wonderful (The Someone Who Loves You Remix) for [livejournal.com profile] moonflower999
(Merlin/Mordred/Arthur – Teen and Up – 4.3k)
Summary: Mordred sends Arthur and Merlin gifts, knowing no matter how hard he hopes, they will never love him back.

Featuring Leon the Long-Suffering, Protective Knights, and a very blind Mordred.

Art: you've got two left feet (when you dance together remix) for [livejournal.com profile] slantedknitting
(Merlin/Arthur – Gen – ART)
Summary: They move in synchrony, feet hitting the ground on the same beats, Merlin's grip on his hands tight, but Arthur wouldn't dare to let go even if he could. His gaze is as reluctant to leave Merlin's face, his wide smile, the glint in his eyes as they move as one across the clearing. The winter night felt cold when Merlin had dragged him into the dance, but right now Arthur feels like he could burn through until dawn.

Fic: Cats and Prats and Books and Hearts (the Singularly Aware Remix) for [livejournal.com profile] ext_2544882
(Merlin/Arthur – Teen and Up – 9.2k)
Summary: To an outsider Arthur's life might seem perfect. He had the best cat, a wonderful PA, a posh flat and a well-paid job (which only partly made up for the fact that it's his father's company and Arthur had to work twenty times harder than everyone else). If only he didn't always seem to end up with the wrong bloke. Every single time.

Maybe the right bloke was the one working in the little bookshop on the corner, on Arthur's way to work? But Arthur was never going to find out unless he went inside (instead of walking past and staring in the window like a creeper every day). Perhaps Valentine's Day would be different?

Fic: the world is just a teller (the time crawls on remix) for [livejournal.com profile] degrees / aoigensou
(Merlin/Arthur – Teen and Up – 3.1k)
Summary: Arthur's a retired pro figure skater who is now teaching kids. Merlin's a youtuber who accidentally signed up for his class. They both most definitely did not expect their day to go like this.

camelotremix: Arthur (Default)
(Merlin/Arthur – Explicit – 2k)
Summary: Arthur is injured, and a mysterious people help to heal him. He witnesses a strange, bewitching, mesmerising ritual and can't help but be affected by it.

Fic: Much Ado (the Friendship is Constant Remix) for [livejournal.com profile] ajsrandom
(Arthur/Gwen, Merlin/Morgana – Gen – 1k)
Summary: Gwen is determined that her human not end up alone. Unfortunately, matchmaking is a lot harder than it ought to be.

Fic: Flatmate Most Annoying for lordvoldemortsnipple
(Merlin/Arthur – Gen – 2.7k)
Summary: Arthur had thought he was going to sleep in Morgana's guestroom only to find out she has a flatmate now and he's extremely annoying. Also, what's up with the nosy neighbour named Gwaine?

Fic: A Toast To Those Who Helped (the A Night To Remember Remix) for [livejournal.com profile] clea2011
(Merlin/Arthur, Gwen/Lancelot – Teen and Up – 5k)
Summary: Gwen’s got a flatmate that she vowed she would find a match for, despite the fact that he’s a closeted magic user. Her boyfriend has an employer who will not shut up about being single, despite the fact that he’s newly sober and the prince of Wales. With enough scheming, love can blossom anywhere … even the bingo hall.

Fic: The First Dryad (The Dryad Village Remix) for [livejournal.com profile] linorien
(Gen – Gen – 3.3k)
Summary: Arthur's favourite place in the world is his gran's cottage by the forest, where great trees seem to whisper to him. Gran tells him stories about dryads and magic, sorcery and sad, lonely souls, and Arthur's father scoffs and tells her to stop filling his head with nonsense. It's the longest tug of war, the gentlest battle for one man's soul. But Merlin will wait for as long as it takes, for Arthur to find his own answer this time.

Art: In Name Only (Blood, Bone, Body Remix) for [livejournal.com profile] schweet_heart
(Merlin/Arthur – Mature – Art)
Summary: Remix of the scene in Schweet_Heart's fic "some fervent and necessary arrangement" where Arthur (knowingly) drinks laced wine with Merlin.

Fic: Money Isn’t Everything (The Monmouth & Company Remix) for [livejournal.com profile] nympha_alba
(Merlin/Arthur – Teen and Up – 7.3k)
Summary: When property tycoon Uther Pendragon buys the building that houses Merlin's bookshop, the very existence of the shop is threatened. Luckily he isn't the only one who loves this quirky place where writers can come and stay for free. Friends and family gather 'round. Old wounds are healed and new connections are made.

Fic: Aithusa: A Model's Duty (The Immortal Dragon Dads Remix) for [livejournal.com profile] lfb72
(Merlin/Arthur – Teen and Up – 3.1k)
Summary: This is the tale of how the famous poster Man and Dragon came to be.

camelotremix: Arthur (Default)
(Merlin/Arthur – Teen and Up – 12.2k)
Summary: Arthur expects hardship and torture when he is kidnapped, but instead there are unexpected allies as truth and lies are uncovered

Art: Gold like the sun (the In His Eyes remix) for [livejournal.com profile] scotscookie
(Merlin/Arthur – Gen – Art)
Summary: There was silence for a moment. “Everything I have is yours, Arthur, I swear it.”

“I know - destiny, duty and love, Merlin. I know.”
They rode in silence for a time before Arthur spoke again. “You need to know. Everything I have is yours.”
Merlin smiled up at him and all Arthur needed to know was there in his eyes.

(Gen – Gen – 655w)
Summary: Lance watches as writer Merlin and actor Arthur fall over each other (their respective heroes).

(Merlin/Arthur – Teen and Up – 2.3k)
Summary: Merlin is so old his memory is failing him. He keeps returning to the hill with the tower but doesn't always remember why he's there or even who he is. Around him the world is misty and grey, and people drift by like ghosts – until one morning...

Fic: Over the Edge (The Just a Little Bit Remix) for MerthurAllure (Kirbymatsu)
(Merlin/Arthur – Explicit – 2k)
Summary: Annoying. Merlin was annoying. And Arthur vowed to himself that nothing about that would ever change
Merlin shows up for work with a new lip ring. Arthur's self-control flies out the window.
(Gen – Gen – 1k)
Summary: Arthur turned Merlin away when he learned of his magic. Retreating to the lakeside with Freya, he wallows in his betrayal.
The land falls into chaos and the king is captured. Merlin refuses to rescue him.
It's up to Freya to rescue the foolish king and hopefully convince him to mend his relationship with Merlin before its too late.

(Merlin/Arthur – Teen and Up – 2.5k)
Summary: A year at Camelot University is over and it's the last party before the summer. Merlin only knows Arthur Pendragon as the guy in his marketing class.

(Merlin/Arthur – Teen and Up – Art)
Summary: Merlin Emrys decides to hire a male escort to pose as his boyfriend at his friend’s wedding. His plan, an attempt to dupe his ex-boyfriend, who broke it off with him a few years prior, proves to be Merlin’s undoing.

Hello Camelot Remixers!

In past years, we have offered Camelot Remix participants the chance to request another participant to remix and have decided to give everyone the same chance again this year.

Please note this this is completely optional, however, if you've looked through the list of participants we emailed to you separately and checked the LJ sign ups here and think "I have a really good remix idea for them", then this is your chance to say so!

This is NOT an official claiming, but we will take your request into consideration as we start our matching process. So if you've looked at the list and seen that there's someone who's requests or works match your strengths, this is your opportunity to tell us that.

If you think you could create something amazing for a specific person, we'd love to hear about it.

Please comment here with 2-5 participants you think you'd be a great match for. Comments on this post are screened and the mods are the only ones who will see your requests and/or comments.

As mentioned, this is completely optional, but if you want to have a little more say in your matching, here's your chance.

Please understand that we can't make promises and this is no guarantee, but we will try to take your requests into consideration as we are matching if at all possible! Please remember, at the end of the day, we still need to match everyone and so we definitely are not promising anyone that they will get exactly who they ask for -- only that we'll try!

You have until the end of Friday 26 February to leave your comments and requests here.

Thank you ♥

Remixes are due Tuesday 1 June.

Either:
- copy and paste the following form and comment to this post with it. When you link to your fic, please use a plain url (example: http://archiveofourown.org/users/winterstorrm/works) rather than a formatted link (bad example: "winterstorrm's fic"); this will make it easier for us to copy and paste the links into the assignment e-mails,

Here are the rules/FAQs for Camelot Remix.

What is a Camelot Remix?
Camelot Remix is a remix challenge for both Merlin and Merlin RPF fanworks. In your signup you can specify whether you're willing to write, create art or podfic works that are FPF (Fictional Person Fanworks), RPF (Real Person Fanworks), or both.

Whilst we will try to match people by preferred pairings, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to match you with your desired pairings, so before you sign up make sure you're open to writing different kinds of stories.

Camelot Remix is an anonymous fest until we reveal the creators at the end of the fest.

What does a Remix entail?

A remix is a challenge where you either:

a) write a new version of a story by another participant,

b) write a story based on another participant’s art,

c) create a piece of art based on another participant’s story, or,

d) create a new piece of art based on another participant’s art

If you decide to Remix by writing a story, you should keep the basics of the story the same (including the basic plot, characters, pairings or lack thereof), but change the style, structure, focus, pov, or etc. Our "What's a remix?" post ( LJ | DW ) explains some more about what remixing means and some of the different approaches people have used in the past. You can also get some quick ideas by checking out the entries from previous fests.

If you decide to Remix by creating a piece of art, you should keep the basics the same (characters/pairings/lack thereof), but apply your own style, focus, etc.

This year's Camelot Remix entries will be posted in a new sub-collection under our AO3 Collection.

What are the eligibility requirements?

In order to sign up as a regular participant, you need to have one, or a combination, of the following for your remixer to choose from:
- at least five remixable fics of at least 500 words each,
- 5 pieces of art, or
- 5 original podficced works (the podfic must be based on a work created by yourself).

These five works:

- must be posted publicly.

- must be complete (no works in progress).

- can be FPF, RPF, or a combination of both (for example, two Gwen/Morgana works and four Bradley/Colin works), but not crossovers with other fandoms.

- should stand on their own – five parts of one story counts as one story, not five.

- should not be collaborative projects or remixes of other people's work.

You'll have the option of designating a "safe work" that cannot be remixed. This work won't count toward the five works you need in order to qualify. You will also have the option of denoting a "starred work" which is the work you'd most like to see remixed. Keep in mind that your remixee is in no way obligated to remix this work, nor are you obligated to remix the starred work of the person to whom you are assigned.

Crossovers and fics of less than 500 words are fair game for remixing even though they don’t count toward the eligibility requirement. Collaborative works are not fair game for remixing.

If you submit a podfic as part of your works, then it must be a podfic of your own work to be eligible for the fest, though you are welcome to make a podfic as your remixed work.

If you don't have enough qualifying works, you can still sign up as a pinch-hitter and we'll contact you if we need someone to create an extra work.

What do I have to create?

Writers: You need to write one story of at least 500 words that remixes one story/art by your assigned remixee. There is no upper word count limit.

Artists: You need to create one piece of art that remixes one story/art by your assigned remixee. Word counts do not apply.

Podficcers: You need to create one podfic that remixes one story, or a podfic based on/inspired by one piece of art from your assigned remixee.

The story/art/podfic you choose to remix can be any length and can be a crossover with another fandom, but it can’t be a work in progress, a remix, a collaboration, or the remixee’s "safe work".

We will e-mail you with your remixee's name and a link to their work, and you'll have about eight weeks to create and post your work.

How do I sign up?

There will be a sign-ups post here on the camelotremix journal as well as a Google Form for those who don’t wish to use LJ, though if you do not have an LJ account, we still encourage you to comment anonymously or with OpenID.

We will e-mail you your assignment, which we'll ask you to keep secret until the reveals post is up, about a week after the final work is posted to the AO3 Collection.

In the sign-ups post/form, we'll ask you to post a link to a list of all your Merlin works; this could be a website, a journal post or a fic journal with tags, or a page at AO3, tumblr, deviantart, etc. If you don't have your fanworks listed or organized somewhere, please try to take care of that before you sign up, it'll make things a lot easier on us and your remixer!

Where will the works be posted?

The works will be posted to the Camelot Remix sub-collection of the current year under the mainparent collection at AO3. This will make it possible for each author to edit their own work whenever they need. It will also make it easy for the mods to control when the works go public and when the remixers' names are revealed.

If you do not have an AO3 account and do not want to get one, the mods will be happy to post your work for you directly to the LJ and DW comms. However, please be aware that by doing so, you do not have as much direct control of your work that you would have by posting your work to AO3.

What if I need to drop out?

We hope you'll only sign up if you're confident you can create a remixed fanwork by the deadline, but we understand that these things don't always work out. If you need to drop out of the challenge, please let us know as soon as possible so we'll have time to find a pinch-hitter and they'll have some time to create their work. ♥ You can e-mail us at camelotremix@gmail.com or send us a message on LJ or Dreamwidth.

Please note: as of 2021, if you drop out of the fest, you will not be eligible to sign up for the next year's fest. And if you have to drop out of the fest twice, you will not be able to participate in future fests (subject to mod discretion).

What about this other thing?

Have other questions or concerns? Feel free to comment here, e-mail, or PM the mods.

So, what exactly is a remix? This post has some more details about what remixing usually means, as well as some suggestions and guidelines for what we expect in this challenge.

What is a remix?

The biggest remix challenge that people may be familiar with is Remix Redux, an annual multifandom challenge that was run by [personal profile] musesfool and co-mods on Livejournal from 2003-2015. Here are a couple excerpts from their explanation of what a remix is:

Ever read a story and think, wow, what a fascinating story, but if I had written it, I would have…? Well, now here's your chance to do just that. Rewrite someone else's story, tell somebody else's tale. Take the work of another person and wrap it up in your vision and style, just like a remixer does to songs.

...You can do whatever you like to the story — change POV, dialogue, mood, characterization, make it longer or shorter, whatever — except for two things: pairing(s) and the basic plotline.

At Camelot Remix, we like to think of remixing as creating a new fanwork that is a complement to the original; a story or piece of art that will stand on its own, but which will also be interesting to someone who's already viewed or read the original work.

Often, a good remix will give the reader a new way of appreciating the original by filling out the background, giving another character's perspective, or explaining the characters' motivations in a different way. Alternatively, it might remix the original work in a completely different medium, such as turning a fic into fanart or podfic.

How do I remix a fanwork?

There are many ways to remix. Some of the most popular methods include:

  • changing the POV. For instance, if the original work is a fic from Merlin’s POV, you might remix it from the POV of another character—or even the POV of a potted plant in Merlin’s office, as in [profile] mk_emrys’s remix It Started with A Cream Bun of [personal profile] polomonkey’s Twice as Sweet As Sugar.

  • writing a sequel/prequel or adding a ‘missing scene’ from an existing fic.

  • changing a fanfic’s tense, genre, or structure. Perhaps you could tell the story in a different order; as a series of drabbles, letters, or texts; or use a 5 Things format.

  • changing the medium. For instance, you might create a podfic of someone’s written work, or write fanfic for a piece of fanart. Similarly, you might consider making fanart (or even a fan-comic) based on a fanfic.

  • changing the composition or colour palette, or otherwise reworking a piece of art in your own style. If your remixee does hyper-realistic art, for example, you might choose to make a Chibi version.

Other ways to remix include:

  • changing the time period (e.g. from canon to modern or vice versa, or to some kind of futuristic or historical AU).

  • changing the focus (e.g. highlighting a minor event or character).

  • changing the AU or trope (e.g. ABO, fairytale AU, non-magic AU, etc.).

What should I NOT do for a remix?

Please do not:

  • change the pairing (or lack thereof). It’s okay to bring a background pairing into the foreground or focus on different parts of the fanwork to make your remix more gen, but if a work features Gwen and Morgana together, don’t replace one of them with Morgause. Similarly, don’t turn an M/F pairing into an M/M pairing, or vice versa.

  • alter the ‘feel’ of the work. If Arthur is a nice guy in the original, don’t turn him into a cheating asshole; similarly, don’t turn a piece of fluffy, lighthearted fanart into something dark and gory.

  • change the basic plotline of a fanfic. Details can be changed, but the essential action should stay the same. If the original is about Bradley and Colin going on a road trip together, you can give them some different adventures along the way, but don’t turn it into a story about them sharing a house.

  • remix an off-limits fanwork. As stated in the FAQ, you may not remix a fanwork that is unfinished, a collaborative work, or a remix itself. You also may not remix your remixee’s designated “safe work” (if they have one).

Expectations and fest etiquette

  1. Please be respectful of other challenge participants. In particular, while you are obviously not required to remix a particular work if it contains something that is a squick/trigger for you, we expect you to keep an open mind and refrain from mocking or criticising the fanworks of your remixee, regardless of your personal preferences. This is a challenge to remix a work your own way, so getting assigned to someone whose taste is different from yours gives you more room to be creative, not less.

  2. This is an anonymous challenge. Please keep the details of your assignment and what you’re creating a secret until after the reveals have been posted.

  3. Remember to thank your remixer! A remix is different from a gift exchange, in that the goal isn’t to create something the recipient/remixee will like but to refashion the original work in the remixer’s own style. That being said, as a remixee you’re the person who knows the original fanwork best and who has the best perspective to appreciate the remix. Most creators would love to hear what you think of their creation, and it’s common courtesy to stop by and leave a comment/kudos etc. on their work as part of the fest. If you can’t think of anything to say, you might consider starting with something simple: “Thank you for remixing my fanwork!”

Post to Collections/Challenges: This field should say CamelotRemix2021.
