(har har) Theoretically this will exercise a different part or my brain (or frustrate me, whichever comes first). Am actually surprised at how clumsy/weak my left hand is. Maybe will have better success training it to swipe.

Mine has a physical keyboard, so that's nice (I liked the G1's better than G2's though). I mostly use it to browse, check e-mails, post time-sensitive comments and ideas/plotbunnies that come to me in bed.

But some BNFs have ben known to type pr0n on their G1,yes =3

I'm quite amused that some of the stories have over 150 hits and only 2 or 3 comments. Read-comment rations are obviously much lower than I thought!

Yeah, the norm at the AO3 is usually around 1 comment per 100 hits, and people say there are similar ratios at other archives. I'd hoped we'd do better as a group of fans supporting each other, but... well, I guess I should be happy that so many people are reading, huh?

Anyway, thanks for your comments and your recs! We'll probably do a post here in the next day or two to start encouraging and collecting rec posts. :)

One consideration (or excuse, I don't know) might be that as an anon exchange with fairly limited field of participants and part of the fun is in the guessing, some writers might feel if they comment on other fics, they'll give themselves away...

Though, remixes have traditionally received fewer comments than usual, as far as I know. We'll see what happens when the authors are revealed. :)

Yeah, I have heard this explanation a lot over the years and it's never really made sense to me. I always figure giving away a few clues about what you probably didn't write is a small thing compared to having a fest with no comments. A lot of people seem to disagree though! :) We'll see, I'm still hoping a lot of people who were busy during the work week will have some more time for reading today and tomorrow. I know I'm looking forward to doing that.

Seconding this! I got to have a very interesting conversation with one other participant, and it really helped both of us get a handle on what we were doing. A group-wide discussion could be an invaluable resource for us and for future remixers who aren't sure what to try.

Sure. My previous attempts to start a discussion here failed pretty miserably but maybe people will feel more like talking after the reveal. Maybe best to direct all the comments to LJ to get people talking to each other.

I've noticed in the last remix I took part in - remixthedrabble - that Merlin fandom doesn't seem very prone to discussing things. Not so used to the idea yet, maybe. In RemixRedux, there are a lot more people and therefore proportionately more talky sorts, so it covers the deafening silence of lurkers better. We need more people to start conversations so others feel more like joining in. :/ /normally a lurker really

That said, we still have a better comment to fic ratio for the number of participants/readers compared to the bigger remix, so, go us! =)

This is true and something to be proud of! Personally I love remix meta but I still like reading and commenting on actual remixes even more. I think feedback is something Merlin fandom is relatively good at, and it's been nice to see some comments from folks who aren't participating in the challenge themselves, and even a few who don't usually read Merlin fic. (Am still sad about a few of those fics that have hundreds of hits and only one or two comments though.)

It's really difficult, feedback in remixes.

People read one thing then another, then get confused/awkward about attribution of awesome/comparisons (because some writers, remixed and remixers, have occasionally whined about this because of tactless commenters).

Or else the remixed story is too closely tied to the original and people are lazy about reading the original first, so the remix does not make sense as a standalone story (which is intentional in many remixes). It all adds up. Or cuts down, as the case may be.

Possibly one way of encouraging discussion (that I saw in another fandom bigbang) is a discussion post with comment threads for each story, so people can post their thoughts/questions/etc - it gives a clear subject rather than forcing people to try to think of things to say.

I do think post-reveal is the time to have this discussion, not least because we'll all feel more comfortable about using specific examples. ^_^

And yes, I'd be willing to comment on LJ, if that's what we need to do to get everyone into the discussion.
