Welcome to the camelotremix/camelotremix sign-up post! (Eeee!)

Important Dates
Sign-ups start right now and close on August 21; assignments will go out few days later.

Remixes are due on October 9 and must be at least 1000 words long. The archive will open on October 16 or as soon as we have one remix for everybody.

Eligibility
To sign up as a regular participant you must have written at least five stories of at least 500 words of Merlin FPF (fictional person fic) and/or Merlin RPF (real person fic).

You can specify one fic as a "safe story" that you don't want to be remixed, but this will not count towards your five qualifying stories.

Pinch hitting
If you don't have the qualifying fics you can still sign up as a pinch hitter. If you want to do this, just write "pinch hitter" in the subject line and give us your name, e-mail address, and preference for RPF or FPF.

Offering to pinch-hit does not obligate you to write an extra story, it just puts you on our list of people to ask if someone drops out.

When you link to your fic, please use a plain url (example: http://archiveofourown.org/users/sophinisba/works) rather than a formatted link (bad example: sophinisba's fic); this will make it easier for us to copy and paste the links into assignment e-mails.

Yay, welcome! You don't actually need an AO3 account until it comes time to post in October, so your Merlin fic tag is good. The one thing that's nice about having your fics there ahead of time is that it makes the linking back from the remix a bit more elegant. But external links work too!

Apropos to nothing: seeing hits on my AO3 stories just make me sad =(
I have 200+ hits on my two stories, but so far only one person commented on LJ (jumping over from AO3)

Maybe I should just turn off the hit feature?

Don't be sad. AO3 tends to be very low comment. Something to do with most people using it as a backup and not the primary place to post their fic, I think. The hit to comment ratio is even more out of whack there that it is everywhere else.

Yeah...I figured it might be like other archives (Skyehawke) where the hit count is crazy high and the comment count is ridiculously low.

But since one person did come over from AO3, I foolishly got my hope up a little, boo.

I'll go turn off that hit count feature.

The hit count used to freak me out a little but I've gotten to like taking a look at it. I think it's so interesting to see which fics have higher hit counts than others and wonder about why that is, whether it's because of the porn or the challenge they were part of or because of the way they're tagged. And sometimes it makes me happy to think of people reading and enjoying there, even if they're not commenting.

I do agree it's useful to see "Ooh, higher hit counts. The summary/teaser works well!" But the pay-off is small compared to my "Nooooo out of 100+ readers nobody likes my story well enough to comment WAHHHhhhh" ^^;;

Well I can always turn it back on in the future when I'm feeling less insecure =P

I would also say that I knew an author who put invisible hit counters on her LJ-posted stories to get an idea of her hits to comments ratio, and it was about 75-80:1, iirc. I may be a little off, but that was the ballpark.

Considering that that's about the # of my mutual friends, I should be resigned to low comment count huh? X-D
(To be fair around half of them don't read Merlin)

I suspected this on the back of my mind, but it's a bit discouraging to see proof of it myself. I'd rather have a bright/optimistic view of the world, see ^^;;

From time to time I search myself on delicious and find people do bookmark my stories. I wouldn't have known they enjoy my stories otherwise!

I think most people have done that at some point. I've just discovered that I really prefer writing for just one person, because I know what they like and I know that if they enjoy it, that's all I really need. The rest becomes gravy for me. (It took me a while to come to this realization, so I'm not like a Zen Master or anything.)

I'm def. less Zen than you, and I (usually) first & foremost write for myself (although I can be persuaded to like a fic I feel meh about when others like it).

Sweetie as long as you're redoing how would you feel about linking directly to your masterlist (http://lilian-cho.livejournal.com/334608.html) so people could see all your fics without having to go through the extra clicks? We'll do an extra post after assignments go out for people who want to leave notes for their remixers. Up to you, of course, you've linked everything up so it's fine, and I get why you like having the note and the list in the same place. :)
